Apple Talent Exodus: Siri Manager Departs for Google

Ana sayfa / News

The Apple talent exodus is accelerating as the tech giant continues to lose key personnel in its artificial intelligence division. A new report reveals that a top Siri manager and several AI researchers have recently departed, joining competitors like Google and OpenAI, fueling concerns about Apple’s strategy in the competitive AI landscape.

Key Figures in the Apple Talent Exodus

Among the most notable departures is Stuart Bowers, a senior manager on the Siri team, who has moved to Google’s DeepMind division. Bowers reported directly to Siri head Mike Rockwell, making his exit a significant loss. In addition to Bowers, Apple has also parted ways with four prominent AI researchers: Yinfei Yang, Haoxuan You, Bailin Wang, and Zirui Wang.

This recent wave of departures follows a pattern of high-level resignations. Previously, Apple’s head of AI left the company, and the head of interface design was hired by Meta. Furthermore, the company has also seen departures in its legal and environmental policy departments, indicating a broader trend of executive turnover.

OpenAI and Design Teams Also Affected

The brain drain isn’t limited to the AI division. Apple’s core iPhone design team is also experiencing significant losses. Many employees are reportedly moving to a company founded by legendary designer Jony Ive, which has since been acquired by OpenAI. According to reports, OpenAI has hired approximately 40 Apple engineers in the past month alone, including notable figures like production design specialist Matt Theobald and human interface design lead Cyrus Daniel Irani.

Another significant loss is Abidur Chowdhury, the designer behind the iPhone Air and considered a rising star, who left for an unnamed AI startup. The move of Stuart Bowers to Google is particularly noteworthy, as he is expected to work on Google’s Gemini models—the very technology anticipated to power a revamped Siri in the coming months. These continuous high-level and technical staff losses at Apple are sparking new debates about the company’s position in the AI race.
